In 1948, the late Norman F. McAuley QC, a returning RCAF veteran, moved to Dryden from his home in Orangeville, Ontario and opened the area's first law office. At the time, he was the only lawyer between Kenora and Thunder Bay. Since that time, McAuley & Partners has provided continuous legal service to the Dryden area and surrounding communities of Sioux Lookout, Ignace, Vermilion Bay, Ear Falls, and Red Lake.

The firm is full service with emphasis on family law, criminal law, real estate, civil litigation, wills and estate, and First Nations development work. McAuley & Partners maintains a central office in Dryden with a branch office in Sioux Lookout.
